Good news from Ministry of Labour Dubai

Saturday, July 25, 2009

For the past weeks, I wasn’t able to post events on my blog, due to the problem I’m facing with the company I’m working with. Even my own weding was washed out of posting because of this. This day, when I arrived at the office, Kuya gave me this link to read. It states about having no ban for 6 months, no need to get an NOC from your company, and its your option to continue to work or leave your company IF YOU HAVENT PAID FOR MORE THAN 2 MONTHS. The salary injustices is very critical in Dubai and needs urgent attention. I applaud the Ministry for protecting the people and not the big headed company owners. The statement is copied from the link.

Dubai: Any worker who has not been paid for more than two months has the right to change jobs without a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) even after receiving his dues, a senior official at the Ministry of Labour said on Thursday. “The rule is also applicable to those who have not been paid for the same duration of time but decided to cancel their work permits where they will have the six month ban, which is usually enforced by the ministry, lifted.” The worker has the right to leave his employer without filing the required notice period if the company does not fulfil any of its commitments as stipulated in the employment contract.

So what do you think of the good news?

What to expect from Indian-turned-American company in Dubai, before WTF!

Monday, July 13, 2009

To make the long story short, this is my email way back June 11 2009, that until now is not sorted out. Our chief accountant that is waiting for his salary for 4 months (an Indian national too, just like the owner of the company)  called me to say “I applaud you for what you did!” when I emailed my second letter addressed to the company. He was fired because of misbehaving (questioning the company in a manner that the company doesn’t feel like). I’d rather not speak of it since it’s not good to be talking about the company at his back, but believe me, all the means you know will surface when you are in this situation, that I’m hoping not. Here’s my sentiments:

Dear all,

May I ask how soon is “soon”? Please, all of us need a definite time, we cannot wait for another month or so living like this. Our work is affected, our lives changed and mostly the lives of those who depend on us are greatly affected. We feel stressed everyday by merely thinking when can we get our 2-month-old-delayed salary and we are not getting any definite reply from anybody. I know we are not in the position to question the company’s plan to expand, but since that is the reason we have been given on why our salaries are delayed, then I’m simply asking the company that before making a huge step (to which it was done, I’m hoping in the future), make sure that no one is being stepped on and left aside unjustly. History is repeating itself, if the company cannot pay us on time, worst case scenario is to allow us to look for another job after speaking with Labour authorities of our options.

When can we receive the salary? Soon as an answer is very vague. We are a thinking people, and not just a puppet, please be humane enough.  And do not take it against us if we will not be able to come to work anymore because of this.

Thank you.

It became the joke of the week, “how soon is soon?” Crap!
